Haven’t posted in forever. Haven’t been living life online. Oh well…

Anyway…

It’s my birthday! Going to see Phish tonight in Mansfield Mass. Anyone else gonna be there? Send me an email.

Stay

This has been stuck in my head all morning. The people at the dog park kept looking at me funny as the lyrics kept escaping my brain by slipping past my lips. Embarrassing.

That said, I still really love this song, and everything about the video.

This Party Took a Turn for the Douche by Garfunkel and Oates

I’ve been a fan of Garfunkel and Oates for a long time. Their production values have certainly improved since it was just them sitting on a couch. Can’t wait to see their show!

John Lennon/Van Halen mashup

“Imagine” and “Jump”. Oddly simple, and better then I expected.  The longer it plays, the more it works.

Bad Music, part two – or “K-Tel Records Presents…”

leave a comment »

Remember K-Tel?  I do.  I always thought they were an 80’s “thing”, but thanks to Wikipedia, I’ve learned that the company has been around since the 1960’s.

Anyway, as a kid, I had two K-Tel Albums (yup, vinyl!), “Hot Tracks” and “Dancing Madness”.  Both from 1983 (I’m old!) Of the two, “Dancing Madness” was my favorite.  But, now I see that this album had songs that were a bit “quirkier” then “Hot Tracks”.  I’m not going to call them “bad” songs, even if that is the title of this post.  (I think “Dancing Madness” may have influenced my musical taste more then I would like to admit!)

Anyway, here are the commercials for these two albums…

I could… NO, I should post every song from these two albums.  Unfortunately, I don’t have time today.  So, let me share with you just a few of my favorites.  (I’ll eventually get to the rest, so stick around!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHIRLY GIRL by OXO
“What?  By Who?” I’ve received that response more then once when I’ve mentioned to people that I love this song.  Come on people, it made it to #28 on the charts!  Does this even put the band in the running for “one hit wonder”, if they didn’t really have a hit?  And yes, this was their only single.  – I remember first dscovering this song on HBO.  They used to play videos between programs, and this one was often on before FRAGGLE ROCK.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

COME DANCING by The Kinks

The Kinks are a classic band, but this was my introduction to their work.  Sadly, in my head, this is their greatest piece of work.  – I love the sense of history and sadness in this song.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(KEEP FEELING) FASCINATION by The Human League
I love me some early 80’s Brit Pop!  This song is now used in some advirt, and the first time I saw the commercial, I felt a bit angry.  Can’t explain it, but just wanted to share it.  – Anyone know where the Human League are now?  In my mind, the girls from this band have not change a single bit since the day they filmed this video.  Logical?  No.  But what does the heart know of logic?
ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE By Naked Eyes
Come on!  This song is AWESOME!  Nuff Said!
PASS THE DUTCHIE By Musical Youth
My first introduction to reggae.  Not sure if that’s a good thing.  But, it is a thing.  Though, I’m not a big reggae fan to this day, so…  Make of that what you will.
