I Am Not A Blogger

leave a comment »

In the last three weeks, since the kids have started school, I have or haven’t…

  • I have NOT improved this site or my online presence.
  • I have NOT ran more than twice.
  • I have NOT mastered my new camera.
  • I HAVE backed up 6 months of family photos.
  • I HAVE finished the home improvement projects I was working on. (Well, almost, I just have one last bookshelf to paint. Maybe tonight. Maybe not.)
  • I HAVE not spent nearly as much time online as I used to. (My Google Readers is bursting at the seams, yet I can’t bring myself to just mark everything as read and start over.)

So, not a great start to the fall, but there are a few bright spots there.  I’m most bummed about not accomplishing number one on that list, but then, as this post is entitled, I am not a blogger.  Or at the very least, not a very good one.  (I’m lazy and lack originality, but I know this and accept it.)

Anyway, over the next few days, in order to post some quantity (instead of quality), I’m going to just fill a few pages with things I found online between June and September.  It’s not tooooo much, (since I wasnt online very often this past summer) but it’s something.  And I apologize, if you follow me on Tumblr, Twitter or Facebook, then this stuff is all old news.  And if you don’t follow me on Tumblr, Twitter or Facebook, then I have to ask, why not?  Come on people, get off you arses and start clicking!

I’m back!

Well, after a long summer absence, I’m back. Schools in session, my days are free, and I finally have time to get online again.

This summer, I decided to take on a little home improvement project, something I though would take me 2 or 3 weeks.  Well, three month later and I’m just starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

My kids have always shared a bedroom.  But, as my daughter is ten now, it’s time for her to have a space of her own.  So, i decided to give up my den, aka “the man cave”, and make it hers.  So, I had to…

  • remove the window & door frame plus the other moulding to save
  • remove the bad 1970’s fake wood paneling (that I secretly liked)
  • removing the cracked plaster walls underneath along with the slats the plaster was attached too
  • take dow the ceiling
  • do some electrical work which included moving outlets and adding a new light
  • putting in some new replacement windows
  • adding insulation
  • putting up new walls and ceiling
  • mudding priming & painting said walls and ceiling
  • paining the moulding and putting it back (which didn’t seem to fit the same way that it was before)
  • purchasing and painting some new furniture for her
  • scrubbing down the hardwood floors that I splattered too much paint on
  • and finally moving her in.

Still to do: paint and put back the 4 closet doors, paint and add the new door for the room, and either sand and refinish the floor (I screwed up, it’s in bad shape) or getting some carpeting in there.  Oh, and she still need curtains on the windows.

Along with all this, I had to move all of my stuff out of the room, and find new homes for it all.  Thankfully, the “playroom/library” is going to have all the toys removed next week, and it will become the “home office/library”.  This means more painting and moving of stuff.  Uck.  I’m sick of it all.

On top of all that, we had to get a new roof on the house this summer.  Expensive!  Not fun to have to part with that cash.

Well, I had a busy summer but ever left the house.  The kids were board all summer long, but I think that they understood that in the end they would both have something cool (their own rooms).

So, summers over.  Here are my goals…

  • to improve this site and my online presence, BUT…
  • not to spend so much time online
  • figure out how to use the new camera I picked up on the cheep (A Canon EOS 7D, a kick ass camera I practically stole!  Thanks Mike!)
  • to run more (I haven’t run since June.  At my age, it gets harder and harder to restart when you take such a long break)
  • backing up 6 months worth of family photos and videos

Well, that’s it, Welcome back to TimothyPatrickMcMahon.com, and please, come back again soon!
