“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #80 & #81
THE CABIN IN THE WOODS – Smart. Funny. Scary. Surprising. Unique. Well Cast. Well Written. Did not cheat on the ending. See it!
THE THREE STOOGES – Not as great as it could have been. It was small & not “stoogey” enough. It felt watered down and made for little kids.
And I’m Not Back!
Again, I haven’t posted a damn thing to this site.
Instead of whining or making excuses about that crap, here are some points of uninterest about my life recently…
- The kids were sick last week, and got me sick. Stomach Flu. I don’t enjoy vomiting, but hey, what can you do.
- I hit level 50 in SW:TOR. Waiting for the new patch to come out in April before I start a second character.
- I’ve picked up my camera again, after a long absence from photography. Pictures soon, maybe.
- I am sick of Girl Scout Cookies. I’ve spent 4 weekends selling cookies on street corners. It’s for a good cause; we’re taking the girls to DC in June, but… I’m sick of it all.
- I’m very far behind on my TV watching, movie viewing and book reading. But what’s new there, right?
- I’ve almost completed my multi-year project of building a database for my Star Wars Book/Comic/Magazine collection. Next step is to publish it online.
- Sadly, I’m too broke to go to ROFLcon III this year. Very upset about this.

THE RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES-Didnt feel like a summer movie. Needed to take 25% out of the middle & add 25% more to the end. Twas “ok”
SUCKER PUNCH-Im kicking myself 4 not seeing this on the bigscreen. Pure style, no substance. As a Z Snyder fanboy, I liked it, but u may not
“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #77
COWBOYS & ALIENS – I liked the cowboy parts better then the alien parts. Nothing deep tho’. Ford has mastered the gruff old bastard role.
“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #75 & #76
CAPTAIN AMERICA – Nearly Perfect! Just what I was hoping for! Nice pace, good action, great character, an awesome look. Can’t wait for more!
SUPER 8 – Nicely captured that 80′s Spielberg vibe. Great to see a “kids” movie again, without it being a “childrens” movie. I liked it!
Indiana Braveheart
At the entrance of Edinburgh Castle, there is a statue of William Wallace. You know, the guy from “Braveheart”.
Here is a picture of the statue that I took the first time I visited the castle…
Well, in the movie “Braveheart”, the character, as played by Mel Gibson, looked like this…

But to me, the statue looks more like another knight from another Hollywood classic. To me, it looks like the last Templar Knight, who is found to be protecting the Holy Grail, in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”. He look like this…
Am I alone in this? Does any one else see the resemblance? Please tell me I’m not crazy. Thanks!

THOR-The MarvelStudios streak goes on! Tho, u could tell it was made just 2b part of the bigr Avengers universe. Sequels need 2b more “epic”
GREEN LANTERN -Surprisingly good! Fun! Loved the grand scale of the sci-fi. This is what the Fantastic Four movies shoulda been. Awaiting #2
X-MEN FIRST CLASS -Loved it as a period piece. Liked the character relationships. Don’t like screwing of continuity. Better then x3 & Wolvrn
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES-Meh. Did not have the over the top swashbuckling set pieces I’ve come to expect from this series
“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #67 to #70
TRUE GRIT – This movie belongs to Hailee Steinfeld. That girl had true grit! (sorry for the bad word play)
TAKERS – I wanted to like this movie, but… I just didn’t. Oh, Hayden Christensen, your better then this. Please try harder next time.
BURIED – Way better then I expected. An great film making experiment. Ryan Reynolds nailed it. Watch this one!
BRONSON – I’m probably not the first to compare it to CLOCKWORK ORANGE in tone, am I? No? I didn’t think so. An interesting character study.
Fight Club
I’ve decided that when they discover my body, I want FIGHT CLUB playing in the back ground. Damn, does this movie speak to me!

Tyler Durden High School
Gawd, do I wish I had gone to a High School this cool.

I found this on THE DAILY WHAT. They wrote… “Meanwhile, At A Public High School In Vancouver of the Day: You are not your grades.”
I like FIGHT CLUB just a little too much.
Making the world a better place through strategically placed small doses of anarchy. How can this NOT speak to me!?!?
E.T.
I’m glad they haven’t, but seriously, why hasn’t Hollywood and/or Spielberg tried to force an E.T. sequel on us?

PIRATE RADIO – i think it wanted to be an English ALMOST FAMOUS, but wasn’t. It was cute, and I enjoyed the cast, but it wasn’t special.
Super Bowl
The best part of the Super Bowl is always the ads. I can already tell you that this will be my favorite ad this year.
“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #65
THE SOCIAL NETWORK – Fact? Fiction? Who knows, but it was damn well written. Aaron Sorkin is a damn fine wordsmith. I more then liked it.
“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #64
127 HOURS -Extremely tense, even though you know how it ends. Or maybe because you know. Also, I found the end to be surprisingly emotional.
WTF-Awesome!
I don’t know anything about Bollywood cinema, but this clip left me wanting to learn more!
Apparently, it’s a Russian dub of an Indian movie. Michael Bay should learn something from this before the next Transformers is made.

RED – A good popcorn, gun shootin’ movie with a touch of wit. Coulda been more stylish though. They tried, but, coulda gone further.
Oh Gawd, No!!!
Someone pass me the the acid, I need to wash my eyes out.

THE KINGS SPEECH-Well made historical drama. Extrmly well acted. Very good script. Not expansive visually but expansive on a personal level.
PREDATORS – The cast and their acting abilities turned what could have been a very bad movie into a watchable pop-corn lick.
BOOK OF ELI – (Spoiler Alert) So, was he supposed to have been blind the whole time? If so, I’ll have to get back to you on this one.
THE EXPENDABLES – Uck. Not the worst thing ever, but… Uck.
SHUTTER ISLAND – (spoiler alert) Sometimes know that there is a twist coming, is worse then knowing the twist. I figured it out in 8 mins.
DEJA VU – I really liked this time travel flick, but I found the flaw in the logic. There’s always a flaw in the logic w/time travel. Ugh!
GET HIM TO THE GREEK – Much better, and funnier, then I expected. A real surprise. I’m glad I rented it.

TRON: LEGACY -As good as my childhood memories r of the original (even tho my adulthood memories of the original r not that good). 3D is A+!
And as a bonus, I give you Mr. Jay Maynard, The Tron Guy, with me in the background, as we appeared in Wired Magazine together! (ROFLcon 2008)

Update – I just found this article on TMZ. It made me sad. :-( It reads…
Jay Maynard — who’s been doing the Tron Guy thing since ’04 — tells TMZ, he gave his local movie theater a heads-up that he planned to see the new “Tron” flick in his famous costume … but for some reason, they “adamantly” insisted he wouldn’t be admitted if he suited up.
We don’t know why management refused — the suit OBVIOUSLY belongs in a museum — but Maynard believes it’s because his masterpiece is “too distracting.”

I’ve fallen behind on my mini movie reviews. Time to catch up.
COP OUT -Oh Kevin Smith, why? Bruce Willis phoned it in. Tracey Morgan was the only good thing about it. I found the score very distracting.
HOT TUB TIME MACHINE -A bad movie that I loved! Made me laugh, I walked away amused & entertained, so thats all I need from a film like this
ROBIN HOOD (2010) – Too slow in the beginning, not epic enough in the ending. Needed to be more swashbuckling, or more history. A bit flat.
DATE NIGHT – Better then word of mouth lead me to believe. The wife & I enjoyed it, and I think that was the point. Thumbs up.
REPOMEN – I cant tell if it was an homage or a rip off of Philip K Dick. Not quite popcorn, not quite intelligent. Worth the rent though.
NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (2010) – Needed to be (preferably) scarier, or campier. Wasn’t much on either front. Lacked intensity. Meh.
JONAH HEX – 90 mins of my life… Gone. Not the worst movie ever, but still, a major waiste of time.
THE WOLFMAN (2010) – I really liked it. Very good. Still, it could have been “more”. Darker, intenser, less predictable. Good none the less
“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #46
SHERLOCK HOLMES -Finally saw last years hit. Bad:Flat CG took me out of it. Good:Liked when we saw Holmes’ genius. Opinion:Needed backstory.
“Movie Review In 140 Characters Or Less” #45
Summers over, so time to crank up Netfix again. And so, back to my mini movie reviews. Up first…
44 INCH CHEST – Not the hardcore Guy Ritchie-esque film I thought it would be. All talk. Felt like a play. Emotional. Not for everyone.
Get Out Of There!
Get The Hell Out Of There!
